bug#4971: 23.1.50; read-passwd breaks GTK menu and tool-bar

This should be fixed now.
BTW, isn't it kind of ugly with an empty tool- and menu-bar? The same tool- 
and menu-bar with all items disabled would make more sense as someone 
previously suggested.
