Ah. OK. This seems at bit strange to me, but if it's intended
behaviour, then it's clearly not a glitch.

I see no problems whatsoever.

Gentoo GNU/Linux, on a Linux virtual terminal (i.e. not in a terminal
emulator, not on X).
