Just compiled master (c617b4bf1e50bf33f0016bbcd5f502cc88150f26)
--with-cairo and your patch on top; SVG images do seem to look the same
from where I'm standing:

As far as this bug is concerned, I am fine with closing it when/if this
patch lands on master.
