`-flag' has been used only, AFAIK, for user options.

What I use, FWIW:
* `-flag' for user options. (I'm about the only
one who does this anymore, it seems.)
* `-p' for non-option variables whose values
are used just as Booleans (`nil', non-`nil').
* No suffix for non-option variables whose values
are used other than just as Booleans (`nil',
non-`nil').
