Not necessarily, because linebuffer provides a slightly different interface
that might be easier to use.

If others agree with this, I'll write a patch which cross-refers the
two and mentions that linebuffer can be easier to use. But I'd rather
it disappeared!

Coreutils uses linebuffer far more than getline, and for good reason. Before you propose removing linebuffer, try writing a patch to make coreutils stop using it, and see how hard that is.

Gnulib is allowed to provide both standard interfaces (getline) and useful GNU interfaces (linebuffer), where you can then choose which interface better suits your needs.

But a patch for both modules that references the other may indeed be worthwhile.
