It's the right level of functionality to provide at the shell level.

As for the getpath v realpath name, the advantage is that it's a separate
slightly less confusing name, the disadvantage being it's compatible
with no existing scripts. One doesn't necessarily outweigh the other,
I'm just stating to help with our final decision.
