Start a fresh Emacs:
% ./src/emacs --no-init-file --no-site-file
Now press e.g. "C-x r w" (`window-configuration-to-register')
*slowly*, i.e. with more than `echo-keystrokes' seconds of pause
between the key presses.
Instead of the expected prompt "Window configuration to register: "
you'll see "C-x r w-".
Yes, I see the same using
today's GNU Emacs CVS snapshot, Mon, 2005 Aug 15 11:04 UTC
GNU Emacs 22.0.50.71 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.6.8)
started with
/usr/local/src/emacs/src/emacs -Q -D
