The answer is, obviously, that the Elisp read syntax for regexps is theThere is no such thing as a read syntax for regexps. This is not a Lisp data type. Andreas.
From the Elisp manual: Therefore, the read syntax for a regular expression matching `\' is `"\\\\"'. Please send your complaints to the writer of that sentence.
