Window or frame?  It sounds like the canvas supports tree-like
objects, and Emacs windows on every frame are organized in a tree.


You could do that, but then Canvas native scrolling could not be used (think split windows). Maybe it can't be used anyway, I don't know if its native scrolling relies on having the whole data rendered. This would take a lot of memory for big buffers.
