IANAL, but the FSF has them, and as far as they can see, the GPL is a
valid license.  Not to mention that it has already been declared valid
in court many times.

So instead of being pedantic, it is reasonable to say that people
creating Emacs and GCC modules are legally required to comply with the
GPL.

That sounds like defeatism.  Whether or not it will work, we are going
to try, and when we discover a problem, we are going to try to solve it
the best way we can.
