I guess I was forgetting that something like *.font would work. In
fact, that's what CDE does.

It's not necessarily a question of having trouble reading and wanting
a larger font. I typically want a smaller one. I also want to fit
the size of the default font to other available families, shapes and
weights.

The idea is simply to DTRT in common cases.
