   The former: I cannot reproduce the original problem with the
   unmodified code in locate.el.

If I understand correctly, that claim applied only to ms-dos.  Has it
since been checked on windows-nt?  (All with a *Locate* buffer with
files on several different drives of course.)  In other words, does
the original problem just look like a local setup problem?
