fontification/syntax highlighting is broken in current CVS emacs
 eg.

 Loading perl-mode...done
 Font-Lock mode enabled
 Loading font-lock...done
 Loading jit-lock...done
 Error during redisplay: (invalid-function (^\(=\)\sw (1 < b)))

 AUCTeX
 Loading tex-mode...
 Loading regexp-opt...done
 Loading tex-mode...done
 Error during redisplay: (invalid-function (^\\begin *{\(verbatim\*?\)}.*\(
 \) 2 |))
 Error during redisplay: (invalid-function (^\\begin *{\(verbatim\*?\)}.*\(
 \) 2 |))

 other modes (lisp/sql) may work.

 Thanks
 Thomas
