Okay, i have more played with it and here what i can say (i hope to be clear):
- i have a .emacs-places since i used "save place in files" formerly
- following the help about save-place, i have added the following to my
.emacs : (setq-default save-place t)
- when i start emacs, Options / "Save place in files" is checked, but if i
open a file that is mentioned in .emacs-places it does *not* retrieve the
point
- I uncheck Option / "Save place..." and after that moment, despite that the
option is unchecked[1] or checked again (i verified that save-place
variable is updated correctly), at opening of a file present in
.emacs-places, Emacs *does* retrieve the point
- i have carefully verified that the visited file was closed and that its
buffer was not only buried between tests
- if i close Emacs and restart it i can replay it at will
Footnotes:
[1] under OSX (Emacs Carbon) save place works just after unchecking option,
but i have just tested on my GNU/Linux Debian box that make save place
working i must recheck it. Then it works disregarding of the checkbox.
I hope tho have given a better description of that strange behavior.
