gnus-registry loading error

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

Sometimes when starting gnus I get: 
"Error in ~/.gnus.registry.eld line <n>". Looking at line n, it will
look like this:

Everything works after manually removing the #"\n" and the properties
from the string "linux, \xc3\xa7\ a pue" so that the cons looks like
this (subject . "linux, \xc3\xa7\ a pue").
