Gnus/5.11 (Gnus v5.11) Emacs/22.0.51 (gnu/linux) |
I'm using Debian Sarge, and I've installed the "ttf-bitstream-vera" package.
I start Emacs with
emacs -Q /usr/share/dict/words -fn '-*-Bitstream Vera Sans
Mono-Medium-r-*-*-18-*-*-*-*-*-*-*'
Then I move point to the bottom of the window with M-- M-r. Now I
roll the mouse wheel away from me, to attempt to scroll backwards. As
expected, I get an Emacs error: "Beginning of Buffer". However, the
window has recentered, with point now in the middle of the window --
in other words, the window has scrolled _forwards_ half a screen.
This doesn't happen if I don't pass a font name on the command line.
In GNU Emacs 22.0.50.1 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll bars)
of 2006-01-29 on debian
X server distributor `The XFree86 Project, Inc', version 11.0.40300001
configured using `configure '--enable-maintainer-mode''

I think that novels that leave out technology misrepresent
life as badly as Victorians misrepresented life by leaving out
sex.
