I just did, with today's CVS on MS-Windows, and didn't see any
problem.
There's one source of uncertainty here: Drew didn't post a complete
recipe to reproduce the problem. Specifically, after invoking
"emacs -q" there are 2 buffers, but Drew didn't tell which ones' names
he typed when Ediff prompted twice for the two buffers. I used two
combinations: the same buffer *scratch* to both prompts, and *scratch*
against *Messages*; neither combination signalled an error.
I just retested, with the build noted below, and I still see it.
emacs -Q --no-site-file ; redundant, but just to make Lennart happy ;-)
M-x set-variable pop-up-frames t
Get these two buffers (for example) in two separate frames: *scratch*,
*Messages*.
Put cursor in *scratch* (for example).
M-x ediff-buffers - choose *scratch* and *Messages*, in that order
(for example).
Immediately quit with `q', then `y'.
Message is "ediff-cleanup-mess: Wrong type argument:
number-or-marker-p, nil"
Here is my *Messages* buffer:
(C:\Emacs-22-2006-07-19-Fran\bin\emacs.exe -Q --no-site-file)
