``Attract'' and ``distract'' are not the same thing.  The default
delay attracts the attention and then goes away; the longer value you
suggested distracts it away of the real work, which is to do whatever
I needed the Grep hits for.

``Not noticeable, invisible, nothing'' is very different from ``very
short''.  Which is it?  Is the highlight indeed invisible on your
system, or just too short to your liking?
