Thanks for pointing that out. Since none of the replies went to me or
to emacs-pretest-bug, and a fix never appeared in CVS, I wasn't sure
if anybody had noticed the report. I didn't think of monitoring the
emacs-devel archives.
Due to some of my filename choices, it keeps annoying me on a regular
basis, and I wanted to make sure it got fixed before the release.
