It has been more than four months since grep-3.0 was released.
Since then, there have been two NEWS-worthy changes:
** Improvements
grep '[0-9]' is now just as fast as grep '[[:digit:]]' when run
in a multi-byte locale. Before, it was several times slower.
** Changes in behavior
The following changes affect only MS-Windows platforms. First, the
--binary (-U) option now governs whether binary I/O is used, instead
of a heuristic that was sometimes incorrect. Second, the
--unix-byte-offsets (-u) option now has no effect on MS-Windows too.
That first one is important, since many regular expressions use [0-9]
and the vast majority of people use multi-byte locales these days.
I have not begun to look at the bug report queues, and will
first update to the latest gnulib, so this is mainly a heads-up
that a new release is coming.
