I'd suggest you talk to address@hidden (see nevrax.org)
on that subject. His the CEO of a company making a Free
Software game. He is very busy but very knowledgeable in the
subject that interest you. If you write him a clear and
relatively short mail (such as the one you sent here ;-) he
will be able to give you valuable advices.

Being part of the Free Software movement (the FSF is only
the most proeminent organization promoting Free Sofware,
there also are others around the world) does not require to
use Savannah. What really makes you part of the Free
Software movement is a philosophical matter.

Savannah is much smaller because 1) it is developped
cooperatively, 2) it appeared in January 2001, 3) it only
accepts Free Software projects (not every project that
contains the word 'free'), 4) it cannot spend $300 000 a
month on infrastructure and salaries.

Hope this clarify things.

Hi there!!

I'm from Paris, France.
I'm a newbie at coding, but I'm willing to learn and
to share experience with others ...

I guess you won't wonder if I tell you that it took me
some time to understand the differences lying behind
the use of words such as "free software" and "open
source".

Even now, I'm a bit confused. Too much information ;)

Anyway, I'm planning to work on a game+game engine (it
will be an original artificial society + strategy
game). And I'm wondering wether I should host this
projets on SourceForge or Savannah ...

I get the point beteween FSF and OSmovement. I'm
closer to the FSF point of view (ethics seems
important to me). But I also realized that Savannah
currently hosts much fewer projects ... How comes? And
what shall I do for my project hosting ... where shall
I go ?

Thanx in advance for answers/commentaries/details ...
