Hi,

can someone explain how the procedure of approving a project here at
savannah works ? How many working days should I expect to get an answer
about denial or approve of a requested project ?

Is something missing ?

Please help how we get this going.

Many thanks.

Cheers
Frank

Hi all Savannah Hackers,

three weeks back I registered my sf-genericinst project (originated on
sourceforge.net) on Savannah.gnu.org and Loic asked me to start a thread
here on savannah-hackers so you all can learn about it. I hope that my
project will be accepted by savannah-hackers.

My vacation started on right that day three days back and I hadn't the
time to post the E-Mail, sorry.

I hope it is no problem that I start the thread a little bit later.

Included is the project description that I used for the project
registration.

Thank for your time.

Cheers
Frank

Project Description
===================

sf-genericinst

We try to add to the original sourceforge.net project sources a generic
installation and administration toolset including build documentation
and supporting scripts/make files to get a sourceforge.net installation
done. We seek a quality solution that can stand up to the Free Software
standards for excellent software development.

Further we want to integrate new features into the SF WebSite and SF
Backend codebase.

In the past (before 23.08.2001) we hoped to join our efforts with the
original Sourceforge.net Team Sources. Today, we are worried about how
VA Linux will be moving the Sourceforge Open Edition in the coming
months and years. If we see that VA Linux gives Sourceforge Open Edition
no attention, does not release new versions with better code, bug fixes
integrated, and so on, we must think about how we as community can drive
an Offspring of the VA Linux Sourceforge.net version into the direction
we want it to be.

Pleae note my personal opinion:

I thank VA Linux very much to have given Sourceforge.net birth and
sharing the Sources with the community. They did the best thing for an
integrated "Open Source" Development paltform I ever saw. And I
completely understand that VA Linux has to generate revenues from the
work they do. I hope we find ways to work together.

At 23.08.2001 VA Linux changes the terms and conditions for the codebase
of Sourceforge.net ( see
http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=6267&group_id=1 for
more ).

We are investigating the changes in terms and conditions regarding
increase or decrease of code quallity, availabillity of new features and
fixing open bugs in the new announced Sourceforge Open Edition codebase
that will provide access for the Community to the sources. At this time
we do not know if Sourceforge Open Edtion is based on the alexandria
sources we know so far. We must wait until VA Linux will provide public
available Releases of that project.

We are now thinking about a complete move to the Savannah freesoftware
GNU effort at http://savannah.gnu.org . We mirroring the sf-genericinst
sources here at Savannah and we are thinking about moving the
bug/task/forums to savannah.gnu.org. But this would require an SF 2.6
Installation. For this we seek to join forces with the debian-sf project
here at Savannah to get a debian installation and migration package for
the move of Savannah from a SF 2.0 Installation into a SF 2.6
Installation.

We want to join forces with all developers and projects that are
interested in developing further on Free Software development platforms
like Sourceforges example.
