Dave Robillard <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: The Om Modular Synthesizer
System name: om-synth
Type: non-GNU

Description:
Om is a realtime modular synthesizer/effects-processor.

It's synthesis engine is 100% seperate from the GUI(s), and is controlled via
OSC (Open Sound Control protocol).

The aim is to build the most flexible modular synth possible, that integrates
tightly with the modular GNU/Linux audio system (ie the technologies that stem
from the linux-audio-dev mailing list, such as the jack audio connection kit,
ladcca session management, etc.), and using standard plugin formats exclusively
to eliminate duplication of effort (LADSPA, DSSI). Support for proprietary VST
plugins, however popular such functionality may be, is not planned.

The engine is built in such a way that it can be used as much more than a
typical modular synth, for example algorithmic music from a scripting language.

A snapshot of the development tree can be found at:
www.scs.carleton.ca/~drobilla/om.tar.gz

(Note that code may not even build, and the name "Synthage" is used throughout,
as that was the previous working name. GPL headers have not yet been applied
to the source files, but this will be fixed before checkin/prerelease)

Other Software Required:
gtkmm, libgnomecanvasmm, libglademm (for the gtk frontend)
liblo (liblo.sf.net)
jack audio connection kit (jackit.sf.net)
LADSPA (ladspa.org)
