Hi Michael,

I downloaded Tramp 2.2.6 and compiled it locally, once with and once without your patch. Unfortunately it still takes long to load a file via SMB, although the numbers have changed a bit.
These are the timings with your patch applied:

Hi Michael,
Hi Martin,

thanks for the patch, I tried it out. Unfortunately it does not
help. Here are the new measurements:

tramp-accept-process-output 7 6.8113620000 0.9730517142
accept-process-output 7 0.805556 0.1150794285
This difference shouldn't happen anymore.

I noticed, that the line numbers in the patch are significantly
different from the ones I got. I used the tramp version delivered with
Emacs 24.2,
so the line numbers, where I applied the patch, are 1375 and
1389. Should I upgrade to the most recent version of tramp and try
again?
My patch was on top of the recent version in Tramp's repository, as
usally.

You could download Tramp 2.2.6 from the ftp repository, it is 4 weeks
old. In tramp-smb.el, there shall still be the same line numbers; the
patch shall apply w/o problems.

Don't forget to compile; tramp-loaddefs.el must be regenerated.

Best Regards,

Martin
