I cannot reproduce this.  If I start Emacs with
emacs -Q -l auctex.el -f rcirc-track-minor-mode file.tex
then `C-h w TeX-next-error RET' returns
TeX-next-error is on C-x `, M-g n, M-g M-n

So there are plenty alternatives to choose from.  Which versions of
Emacs and AUCTeX are you using?
