Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that Imaxima comes with its own
clone of preview-latex.
Earlier versions were based on an early version of preview-latex. I
have glanced over a (then) current version a year ago, but saw no
significant recognizable code remaining from preview-latex, and the
documentation did not mention or attribute it.
I found that somewhat weird, as preview-latex itself has improved very
much since then and tracking it (or creating hooks for using its code)
would have seemed a better idea to me, but of course that's up to the
maintainers of the Imaxima modes.
