While trying to build a2ps for darwin-1.3.3 (Mac OS 10.0.3),
I kept running into the following error while running configure:

checking host system type... configure: error: cannot guess host type; 
you must specify one

The fix was to copy the config.sub and config.guess files
from a new distribution (such as bash-2.05) into the auxdir directory.

I also had problems installing but that was fixed by changing
the shell from sh to bash (I found this info in the known bugs for BSD 
systems)
