I can't reproduce this. My patched version of bash gives
$ ./bash --version
GNU bash, version 4.3.26(3)-release (x86_64-apple-darwin13.1.0)

on Mac OS X. You might ask the FreeBSD ports folks, since it will
probably be a while before I can look at this.
