FWIW: FreeBSD has the same "broken" defines (I think we got them from
Linux in the first place :-)
There's a long term value for ia64 if we all agree on the ABI. I'm
in favour of the change.

It may cause compilation failures. Previously ported applications may
need to be changed again, with a loss of backward compatibility. This
probably is the small price we have to pay. I expect that the amount
of breakage is minimal though.
