If there is such resistance (I expected it, though I don't buy it's
really that intrusive a change - after all grep-ing for all uses of
these constants is a trivial thing to do, and a good editor can do all
the necessary replacements without human interaction), then why not keep
the old definitions as aliases of the correct ones for a transitional
phase?

I got an answer from the glibc maintainer, Ulrich Drepper. He says
that
it is not feasible to change, because there is too much code already
using the current reloc names.
