purge does not remove links (2.0.5)

If you have a set of directories that are being
copied in an update.conf file, with files in them, all works fine.
If one of the directories has a symbolic link, then that link is
not found or deleted; however, attempting to delete the directory
fails as there is a link in it.  If that directory is in a directory
that is to be deleted, then that fails because it contains a directory
that contains a link..... and so forth.

"purge" should remove symbolic and hard links and device files - and
really, EVERYTHING which is not found in the other directory.
