Definitive version of findutils?

The findutils distribution at ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/findutils/ is
nearly eight years old:

A net search turns up considerably more recent versions, such as

dated 20-May-2001.

I'm co-authoring a publication in which findutils is mentioned, and
I'd like to be able to point readers to the definitive version.

Is there a reason for the lack of a more recent version at
ftp.gnu.org?

Can anyone identify the current definitive version?
