locate doesn't handle newlines in file names?

Hello,
I made a small test:
% touch "a\
b"
(i.e. create a file with the name "a\nb", something hacker might do)
<run updatedb>
run locate on ALL the files in its database.
Apparently locate reports the above-created file as "a" (there is no
file "a" in that directory, I checked).
Are you aware of this limitation? Maybe it's worth a mention in the manuel?
I'm using findutils 4.1.7 on Debian unstable.
