The manpage contains only little information about GNU programs. For most GNU
packages, most of the information is in the documentation, not in the
manpages.

You don't need it in all your strings. You only need it in the (few) specific
cases where xgettext has added it AND you are manually determining that
xgettext guessed wrong.
