I actually did a little bit of the same thing, and you can see the software
component here:

Unfortunately, that URL above is a bit long, so you may need to patch it up
manually.
I'm confident that your port will be [much] better than mine, and I look
forward to incorporating your changes into mine.
The issue for me was that there were several parts of the GMP library that I
did not understand. I do not trust algorithms that I do not understand, so
I just simplified them, most certainly at the expense of turning n log n
algorithms into n**2 algorithms, etc.
If there is any way I can assist you in the future, of if anything needs to
be cleaned up ... I have version control facilities here, and it would be
easy to collaborate.
