No. On both the Windows and Mac platforms, selecting is just that:
selection. You then have to use a command on the selection. One of
those commands is copying, bound to Ctrl-C on Windows and on Apple-C on
Mac. In fact, since I most often use Unix in text mode, I have never
get accustomed to what seems to me a strange (and not clean) behaviour
on the part of X, that is, selection of a text also means copying it.
I am not sure about it, but I would say that Emacs ports on systems
other than X should take this into account.
