I have one (sbcl) lisp image that's been running for almost a month
now. I can load everything back into it if I need to, but I lose all
the temporary stuff I was using to trace a problem, or whatever, that
I'd put on the backburner for a while. I try to clean things up and
save an image every week or so. I can't work on this stuff full time,
so I think my development cycle is reasonable.
