question - about xemacs

Hi,
I have a small question-
I'm using a xemacs :   [version 21.4; April 2001] in a windows 2000
platform.
when I try to open a file through the gui a small window is opened and there
I can select among all the files which file I want to open.
The problem is -
when I try to filter just certain types of files such as {*.v}
the command line in the "Files of type" is not write-able.
what is the reason ?
