There's a race in the Makefiles where grn can be used before it's actually
built:


groff: error: couldn't exec grn: No such file or directory
grops:<standard input>:(<standard input>):7: fatal error: 'V' command invalid
before first 'p' command
grops:<standard input>:(<standard input>):7: fatal error: 'V' command invalid
before first 'p' command
make[1]: *** [Makefile:13990: contrib/hdtbl/examples/chess_board.ps] Error 5


This can be replicated on demand by running configure and then adding "sleep
60"
