Is it safe (yet) to upgrade/update to Fedora 11 after the fiasco that wiped
out so many OSes.

I have found that it is better to unplug all flash drives when doing
Upgrade or installing grub.

Details:

Hi. I try to build grub 1.96 with MinGW. Version binutils 2.19.1 (last)

checking whether objcopy works for absolute addresses... no
configure: error: GRUB requires a working absolute objcopy; upgrade your
binutils
