guile 1.6.x won't compile for me

I'm on apple PPC hardware with a quite recent gentoo linux system.

I did:
   ./configure --prefix
   make

.libs/lt-guile is segfaulting, while the build is trying to make the
texi documentation files.

I hope this helps. It's beyond me why this doesn't work. That warning
"comparison always true due to limited range of data type" might be a
good clue though.
