This stacktrace is ... unhelpful. I think there was a post somewhere where it 
detailed how to debug that but I can't find it again :(

I can confirm this. Running from the git repo gives a better stack trace (below). I think this might be due to the lack of "run_requires" in the json file. Do you think the solution might be to not require one? If so do you want to have a go at fixing this?
