I can give you the reason why it was written like that at least.
ifeq, etc only work with GNU make. And the Makefile was purposefully
written so that it would work on OpenBSD too.
OK, that is a valid reason. I am not familiar with BSD make so I
need to check but I am sure I can make it work somehow and
eliminate the need for changing the lines in Makefile for different
build variants. I guess that is OK?
Yesterday I was wondering for another reason how to support Windows
and I actually realized I dont know what platforms usim should run
on. So, from what you said, I take it as Linux, macOS and BSD
variants ? Any interest in supporting Windows ?
Whoever does the work, gets to decide really. GNU/Linux and OSX are
the main ones.
OpenBSD is probobly not much used, and I've not had a report about
Windows support in +10 years.
