Package: parted
Version: 1.6.23-1
Severity: important
Tags: d-i

/me considered setting higher priority for this bug as it breaks
d-i installs on Sparc as existing partitions are not recognized.

Setting up parted (1.6.21-1) ...
address@hidden:~/parted$ sudo parted /dev/hda print
Disk geometry for /dev/hda: 0.000-4103.920 megabytes
Disk label type: sun
Minor Start End Filesystem Flags
1 0.000 2860.839 ext3
4 2860.840 3627.268 ext3
2 3627.268 4103.920 linux-swap

Setting up parted (1.6.23-1) ...
address@hidden:~/parted$ sudo parted /dev/hda print
Error: Unable to satisfy all constraints on the partition.

Same error happens in later versions (tested up to 1.6.24-2).

fdisk reports the following:
address@hidden:~/parted$ sudo fdisk -l /dev/hda
Disk /dev/hda (Sun disk label): 15 heads, 63 sectors, 8892 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 945 * 512 bytes

Device Flag Start End Blocks Id System
   /dev/hda1 0 6200 2929500 83 Linux native
   /dev/hda2 7861 8894 488092+ 82 Linux swap
   /dev/hda3 0 8894 4202415 5 Whole disk
   /dev/hda4 6200 7861 784822+ 83 Linux native

/dev/hda3 is the typical sun disklabel "whole disk partition"
