Can anybody help with this problem please?

Recutils installed from source
Running any command that attempts to write to the file reults in:
command:
recset -f c_id -d inventory.rec
results in:
recset: error: renaming file /tmp/recoc4fvf to inventory.rec
The recfile is OK on permissions.
i have tried several diffent recfiles, all of which work on another (ARCH) machine
I'm afraid this has gone out of my comfort zone!
