Hi Sergey,
Please try this:
run info from the cmdline, to get to the dir node.
then do m info RET, to get to the info manual.
then do r, for the cross-reference command.
for me, the result is the expected text,
Follow xref (Stand-alone Info):
... but the cursor is over the "a" (in "Stand-alone"), instead of after the ":
". (If I type a character, the cursor does move to after the colon.)
This does not happen if I run info info from the cmdline. Then the cursor is
at the right position after the colon, after pressing r.
This is with LC_ALL=C.
Can you reproduce?

P.S. on the info-virtual-index request, I meant to say that i will add it to
