I presume so too, given that the original need for that "exception"
was to support static linking for embedded systems.  There, the
use of all classes in a library would be prohibitively expensive,
and static linking would have been precluded by the LGPL.

I suspect the files should all get new licence headers, but I'd be
curious about what the GNU licence folk have to say those
headers should be.  Does anyone on this list have more solid
information on those issues?

Could you elaborate a bit more on what you'd expect to see in terms
of such information?  Yes, it's high time for a pre-built JAR to appear.
