I found the command under 'Adding timing marks to long glissandi'.
I've been applying small changes to an example that I previously submitted. I've tested these changes both in Denemo and Frescobaldi.
One thing to note in Denemo, is that changes made in the 'Advanced' tab under Object editor seem to work better than attempts to change it in the Lilypond Text Editor.
\once\hide NoteHead also creates the proper spacing for 'hidden' noteheads.
I've attached the small Denemo example before and after changing the \once\hide\NoteHead command
