regardless of which IRC network is recommended, _someone_ could
offer the same argument, against it
if the #fsf channel were still on freenode, people could complain
that there is no alternative to freenode - if the FSF instead,
hosted its own IRC network, it would not affect the (in)validity
of the "lack of alternatives" argument
the only other solution to this supposed problem, would be to
establish a channel on every chat network, preferred by each
participant - the result would be multiple, smaller, isolated
discussions, rather than a unified "meeting"
it is simply not possible to please everyone
the community always has the option to operate their own
discussion channels; but the project members can not be expected
to monitor them all - until very recently, i could not name a
single example of a project which maintains duplicate IRC
channels - for the ones which are doing it now, it is a
regretful burden, done reluctantly as a concession (and probably
temporarily)
