Are you sure you recompiled the testing apps (menu, etc) after you
installed 0.6.6? Do you still have libraries from older version of
GNUstep lying around? 0.6.6 moves the backend context initialization to
the gui library rather than main(). Something must be messed up there.
Perhaps removing any possible old versions of GNUstep, 'make clean' and
reinstall 0.6.6 and then recompile menu.app
